A tankless installation should be assessed as a complete system: simultaneous use, incoming water temperature, fuel and electrical supply, approved venting, drainage and applicable permits.

Start with the way your home uses water

A larger household does not necessarily mean more simultaneous hot-water use. A family taking showers one after another presents a different demand from two showers, laundry and a kitchen tap running together. Describe the busiest routine and any unusual high-flow fixtures.

Include planned renovations, a secondary suite or an added bathroom. These can change the demand and the practical layout of the system. The online planner organizes this information; it does not choose an appliance.

Review the existing mechanical room

A tank-to-tankless conversion may reclaim floor space, but the wall-mounted unit still needs service access and a suitable connection arrangement. Ask the installer to identify the proposed location and explain how the vent, gas, water, condensate and electrical requirements will be met.

For an existing tankless replacement, document the model and the performance complaint. A new unit should not inherit incompatible venting or repeat a sizing problem.

Coordinate the Calgary permit scope

The City’s gas and plumbing guidance is the starting reference for work within Calgary. Electrical changes have their own scope. Have the contractor identify applicable permits, who applies and which inspection records you receive.

For a property outside Calgary, confirm the authority responsible for the exact address. Municipal names alone do not determine every project requirement.
